Ms Trista's Class - Early Preschool

Welcome to a New Year and a New Month. December was crazy, but we all pulled through and have been moving through January. We are glad you are back with us for more excitement and adventures.

In the coming weeks we will be covering our Emotions. Children need our help to learn how to work through their feelings and how to utilize them in an appropriate way. Children who use aggressive behavior or yell have not learned to label their emotions and still have trouble telling adults and other children how they are feeling. We will begin by learning about different emotions and how they make us feel. We will learn to calm our bodies down when we become angry with different techniques such as the “Tucker Turtle” story or Daniel Tiger’s “When I’m Feeling Mad” song.

Helping children to identify and label emotions is an important first step. Many preschoolers do not yet have the vocabulary to identify feeling words like angry or frustrated or have the skills to “read” facial cues or to interpret body language. Adults support children’s social-emotional development when they label and talk about emotions.

The following links are some resources about helping children to regulate their emotions.

Thanks!

Ms. Trista
