Ms Emily's Class - Toddler 4
Hello from the Toddler 4 Classroom!
This month our focus has been on Communication Skills and Early Literacy. This is one of my favorite areas because of the benefits children receive from reading with their caregivers. We have been building our communication skills through expressive vocabulary and comprehension of our vocabulary as well. It is important for children to have a voice and for that voice to be understood by others. We have been using and offering different vocabulary through routine play that allows for the children to express themselves in different ways that can be understood by others. Painting at the art easel and discussing what we are painting is something the children really enjoy doing. Taking something the children really enjoy doing and adding supportive vocabulary to that makes it an even more beneficial experience. We have also added additional reading materials such as books to various centers as well as children’s magazines that offer new material for the children to explore. When it comes to early literacy, we have been reading, reading, reading! We have been reading with the group of with individual children as well as looking at books and telling our own stories. Children really benefit from looking at books as well as reading with others. It is a great way to build relationships with caregivers.
As we move into the next month, we will turn our focus towards science and all the wonderful things it has to offer. I think this is a great time to explore science because of all the changes that are happening during this time. The weather is starting to get a little cooler and the leaves and grass are beginning to change colors. With those changes, we can really explore the scientific properties of basic concepts of the earth. We will also be focusing on developing early scientific inquiry skills by questioning, exploring, problem solving, discovering, and examining. We will be doing activities in our sensory table with colored rice and water as well as mixing colors together to see what it can create. We will also be examining the leaves in the different stages of transformation that occurs during this time. We will be exploring the different colors and textures that are present right outside of our doors. We are excited to begin to explore these new changes and cannot wait to share what we have learned with you all. So, take advantage of this beautiful weather and go for a walk with your family. You can go leaf hunting and explore all the wonderful changes that are happening all around us!
