Ms Amanda's Class—Toddler 1
Hello from T1!
We had a very productive January! We were learning all about dinosaurs! One of our favorite activities was to read the Big Dinosaur Book. It has all kinds of dinosaurs in it with their names, and it was so fun to see the kids trying to learn the dinosaur names. Some dinosaurs had long names, and I was very impressed that some of our kids mimicked the names perfectly! Another activity we enjoyed was our sensory table; it was filled with water this month along with some dinosaur toys. We had a lot of fun pouring water on the dinosaurs along with filling cups with water and pouring it back out into the table.
For the upcoming month, we are going to be talking about love, and that goes with our social and emotional development goals. Social emotional development is one of the key areas that we work on here at DCDC. One of our most important and sacred roles is to form an attachment with our children; we do that daily by meeting their emotional needs. We say “I love you” a lot, and also “I’m glad you are here today in our class.” We try to be as positive as we can and let our students know that we love them and that we want to do everything we can to keep them safe. These bonds grow into trust, and that opens up a whole new world to our students; they will feel more confident in meeting their own needs. It’s an amazing process, and one that I don’t take lightly. Some of the activities I have planned are that I have several new books that will be on our bookshelf such as Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney and I Love You Through and Through by Bernadette Rossetti Shustak, along with several other books about love. We will also be painting a lot with red and pink on heart-shaped items. I also will be dying some rice pink and red and filling our sensory table so our children can explore it. I think it is going to be a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to it!
