Music and Movement

Music is used in many ways by many different people. In the classroom, it is an amazing tool to help a child’s development. In the article, Using Music with Infants and Toddlers, it goes over the countless things music can do to aide in development – anything from gross motor development as children move to music, to counting and learning about patterns or sequencing. It can also help in understanding our emotions, which we as adults can benefit from as well.

We use music in many ways in the classroom, but I encourage you all to explore what music has to offer at home. Take some time to listen to music and get moving, or count the “Five Little Monkeys” with your family. We could all benefit from some time together listening to music, and your infant or toddler will be learning in the process!
