Ms Amanda's Class—Toddler 1

Happy September!

We had so much fun last month learning and reading about food! We painted with forks and some of our dramatic play food! We received some new books that have all kinds of different fruit and vegetables and even a book that is interactive and teaches us how to make cupcakes! We talked about what foods we liked and didn’t like, and how foods are all different shapes, colors, and sizes. We have a book called Yummy Yucky by Leslie Patricelli that the kids really enjoyed. This book showed a picture of something yummy that we can eat, and then on the opposite page it showed something that was yucky that we explained that we could not eat because it would make us feel yucky inside and taste bad. The kids thought the yucky pages were very funny and would scrunch up their faces and yell, “YUCKY!” It was so cute! I highly encourage parents to speak with your children about food; it is important to expand their horizons and let them explore food in a safe way. Ask them questions about where a food item comes from or what they think it tastes like. You might get some really funny answers!

This upcoming month we are moving on to wild animals! I’ve noticed that our class has been playing with our animals quite a bit, and I thought it would be fun to explore animals more! We will be doing lots of observational paintings of different animals and reading all kinds of books that have different animals in them. We will also be putting some different animals in the sensory table along with more flour and Jell-O packets! Learning about wild animals also teaches our children that we share our world with many other creatures and that we have to respect nature as it is a home to everyone. I really think it is going to be a fun month and full of animal noises from the children. I certainly cannot wait!
