Ms Amanda's Class - Preschool

Preschool is studying dinosaurs. We have created dino scenes throughout our classroom. These different areas showcase the diverse types of dinosaurs that we had here on earth. Children also have been participating in their own imaginary dinosaur worlds. Each student was able to journal about their “pet dinosaur.” As many of us are preparing for kindergarten, we have been practicing our emerging writing skills. At home parents are encouraged to allow your child time to write. They may write letters that you recognize and some others that you do not. Nonetheless, writing is a foundational skill in communication, and your child enjoys writing. Each day our class has access to journals and other

It’s officially hot! Hot! Hot! Summer has arrived! Please continue to bring cool summertime clothes for our friends to play in - to get wet, muddy, and sandy. We love to explore the outdoors and everything it has to offer, but we need to mindful that this weather can affect our little friends. Please rest assured that prior to going outdoors, we put on sunscreen. Children also have access to water at any time to keep them hydrated and healthy. Too much heat can be dangerous. Look for us to spend outdoor lesson time during the morning hours. Unfortunately, kiddos do get sick during the summertime. Sometimes it is too much heat, sometimes it is a bad batch of potato salad. So please listen to

Dear Parents, We have a small change to our classroom schedule. In efforts to avoid the high temperatures outside, we will be doing our large group and circle time in the afternoon instead of in the morning. We will be spending the majority of our morning outdoors while it is cooler and our playground has the most shade. Pictures will still be posted of our afternoon play before the children are checked out. Lunch and nap times will, of course, remain the same, just like the rest of the center. Thank you for your understanding. Outdoors we will continue our lesson plans. Did you know that our outdoor space is in fact an outdoor classroom? All of the interest areas that we have inside, often

Age appropriate behavior: As some of you are unfortunately aware, biting can be a common occurrence in the classroom. This could be due to several reasons, but first and foremost it is an age appropriate behavior. I want to assure all parents that we (myself and Amanda) are taking all the precautions we can to ensure this is not the norm. This includes teething rings, raspberries, and extra close monitoring of the children who are more likely to bite or be bitten. We are also working with your children on vocalizing their feelings to avoid conflict with peers. Children are allowed to have space of their own. Even at a young age, their personal boundaries are honored in our classroom. If you

Dear Parents, With the changes of seasons, we have been experiencing changes in our senses. Over the past weeks, we have gotten our hands messy with paint and sand experiences. Outdoors and indoors we learn how things drip down, absorb, and dry in the warm summer air. We appreciate all of our parents bringing clothes for us to change into when we go outside for play. Each day we go outside to read or work on our gross motor development. We encourage parents to get out and enjoy this summer sun. Sun is a great mood booster and the vitamins can enrich our growth. When we go outside, we put on sunscreen and drink lots of water. We hope to see our parents come out and enjoy the playscape with us

Hello Parents! Thanks to all who were able to attend the Family Cook Out! It was a joy to see you there interacting with your children and their teachers. In TA class, we will continue to show off our Mother’s and Father's Day pictures with your children, keeping with the "Face to Face" song by Laurie Berkner. The pictures being around the room have been very soothing to your children. It is almost as if they can interact with you throughout the day. For instance, one of our children loves to take mommy to naptime with her on occasions. It also has caused the children to interact using their words about whose mommy is who. During the month of June, your children have become more verbally soc

Summer greetings from the Claremore infant room! We have been experiencing much hotter weather these past few weeks and have spent more days inside exploring and playing rather than outside. We are going to begin going out earlier in the morning, before it gets too warm, so be sure to join us! We still use our personal playground due to a couple of our friends being much younger, but we enjoy exploring the toddler playground as well. We enjoyed some fun activities for Father’s Day, including our Father’s Day bar-b-que, and we hope all of our friends and families enjoyed them as well. Due to the hot sunny weather, be sure and apply sunscreen before coming to school, and we will reapply again

Letter from the Director!

Dear Parents, The summer has been full of excitement! We have so many new walking children, we have added new teachers, and our kitchen renovation project is nearly complete. Thank you to all of the families that came to the Father's Day Family Cook Out; it was an event to remember! Here at DCD, we are committed to partnering with parents. Research shows that children who have family members participate in their school perform better in the classroom and also have higher confidence. While we have play-based teaching practices, we implement curriculum in every classroom each day. Our objective is to build healthy foundations (physical, mental, social, and emotional) for all of our children. I

Fostering the Social and Emotional Development of Our Children As Early Childhood Educators, we know that it is just as important to foster our emotions as well as our intellect. As teachers, we can provide an environment that is comfortable for children to learn and grow—one that is nurturing. Our teachers’ management style is effective in building positive relationships. DCDC teachers know it is important to teach children how to respond to their own feelings as well as others’ feelings and how to embrace life challenges. Social and emotional development is a crucial part of how children react to things that happen in their family and in their environments. How a child handles inner turmoi

June was a lot of fun! We learned about what Architects do and how they are important to the community. We also learned about Summer, how the weather changes, and all the things that we can explore during the Summertime. I want to thank all of you who joined us for the Father’s Day Cook-Out! It was wonderful to see all of you getting involved and enjoying each other’s company. Next month, we will continue our travels around the world by learning about North America and the different countries and cultures that are on that continent! It will be a lot of fun! As always, the kids love when parents come in and participate either by reading books or helping with projects. Please feel free to joi

Welcome to our blog! We hope you will enjoy reading about the adventures of our class as much as we like to share them with you. We have enjoyed the sweet smells of Spring, and now we are excited that Summer has finally arrived! We will be celebrating the internationally recognized "Mud Day” on Friday, June 29th! We have been counting down the days, and now it’s time to put our imaginations to rest. Our book about Mud will be seen and heard often until the big day arrives. Mary Lyn Ray tells a phenomenal story about Mud and the day it comes to life. The author discusses four of our senses, shows awesome visuals, and enlightens learning. We are excited! On Wednesday, June 6th, our class had t

Greetings from T2! June flew by, and we can’t believe July is already here! We have been so busy exploring and learning this month by listening to stories, engaging in child-led play, exploring Art & Sensory, and spending time in the fresh air. In our classroom we have been listening to a lot of Classical music throughout the day. We have noticed it calms our classroom down, and the children enjoy it. We have a few children who will even dance like ballerinas when the music begins. Our class has also really loved coloring lately. They enjoy creating masterpieces, and we love hearing them explain what they have created. Water play has been a lifesaver to beat the heat lately. The children lov

Summer IS Here!!! Summer is finally upon us! We were so happy to enjoy the nice weather that June brought! Some days were too hot to get outside, and as you may know, most of our infants are on the move! So, what does one do with eight energetic babies when it's just too hot to get outdoors? We open the classroom door and explore the hallways! This allows the infants to keep cool in a different environment while getting their wiggles out, interacting with the other children through the windows, and working on gross motor skills: crawling, pulling up, and walking. This month we will be engaging in more sensory play. Sensory play offers learning through hands-on activities that stimulate your

Hello from T1! We have had a busy month of June. It has been hot, so to cool off we have had fun with water days where we play in the water table outside along with the hose! We just love to splash around. We were also learning about the ocean this month! Our kiddos love reading the books Sea Creatures at Your Fingertips, Ten Friendly Fish, and There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell. They think counting the fish is so much fun, and the children love to laugh at the old lady who swallowed a shell. We have also been painting with the colors green and blue a lot and discussing that the ocean is big and blue! A fun art project we did was painting with seashells that we have in our science

Dear Parents, We are letting the good and sunny times roll at DCDC Claremore! Each summer we prepare our classrooms and playscape for all the fun that we will be having. All children wear sunscreen when we are outdoors for play. Please prepare your child’s cubbie with needed items for exended exploration outdoors. We are ready for our Father’s Day Family Cookout June 21st! Please let us know ASAP if you will be in attendance. This event is for all family members. We will have games and activities for you to participate in with your children. Please join us from 5-7pm! Each family is asked to bring a side dish to the event. Let a teacher know if you need to sign up. Our annual MUD DAY is also

Good Day, Parents of Preschool! If your child is transitioning to public school, we need to know ASAP. We are planning our busy summer which will include getting to know amphibians, using our writing tools, and learning in small groups. At this time of year, our nap time is also shorter (1 hour), so please be mindful of that in your daily routines. Our goal is to prepare your children for kindergarten and practice our self-regulation skills. We also will be participating in heavy outdoor play. The center provides sunscreen for each child. Please be sure to stock your child’s cubbie with extra clothes and swim suits. Let us know if you have questions!

Dear Parents, I want to thank you for helping me with the transition into my new role as Master Teacher in your child's Early Preschool 2 class. I have met most of you personally, and I want to say thank you for being so kind and participating in the recent activities our staff worked so very hard to put together for our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, etc. Also, I would like to add that as the summertime season approaches, we will be outside the majority of the day. With that being said, my little friends will be exploring in our lovely sand pits and muddy gardens, along with having lots of water play. Please keep in mind they will be getting their clothes wet and muddy, so if you wo

Dear Parents, Please remember to check your child's cubbies for proper summer attire. Water shoes are encouraged for our stream and water play. Here at DCDC Claremore, we get dirty, and we love it! Dirty play is a learning experience and a chance to explore! We have mud, sand, water, and more on our playground for your children to interact with. Also, please remember we are in our swim suits daily, but we will be cautious of your pick up routines to have the children as ready for you as they can be. We hope to see you at our cookout, June 21 from 5-7pm!

Ms McKenzie and Ms Amanda's Class - Toddler C

Hello my wonderful parents of TC! It’s June, which FINALLY means summertime! We have begun doing water play in the afternoon with the kiddos, so if you haven’t brought a swimming suit for your child yet, please do so, along with other weather appropriate clothing. We will be spending a lot of time outdoors which makes for messy children. Our center highly encourages outdoor learning; therefore, we take a lot of our indoor activities outdoors. June also means Father’s Day, so we will be talking a lot about dads and how important they are! There will be a Father’s Day Cookout on June 21st from 5-7 here at DCDC Claremore. Lastly, in June our class will be talking about the five senses and what
