Shawn Maple, Child Care Center Director
Email Shawn Maple
I am the Site Director at Secondine Child Development Center in Chelsea. I have been with the program for since 2003 and have worked in all the classrooms. I started out as a substitute teacher and now am full time. I graduated from Vinita High School in the spring of 1993 and attended Rogers State University for two years after graduation, working toward my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. In August of 2005 I received my Child Development Associate after many long hours and dedication to get it done. I am currently going to Tulsa Community College in hopes of someday receiving my Associates in Early Childhood Education. I have enjoyed being around young children all my life and knew in my heart that someday I would be working with them. I enjoy the questions that children ask and I also enjoy getting to know the parents on a personal level. By working so closely with families and their children I believe that I can better serve them and their needs. I believe that our program is most vital to our young children in this day and time because we do not always know what goes on at home, but we do know that while in our care they are loved and nurtured to the best of our ability.
Kimberly Carter, Infant Teacher

My name is Kimberly Carter. My husband and I live on seven wooded acres in rural Chelsea. We have seven beautiful children, five of which still live at home. Not many years after our marriage we became foster parents for the State of Oklahoma. We were forced to “retire” after our home was filled with our sixth child.
I was a stay-at-home mom until my youngest daughter was in school fulltime. After two years of being in the workforce I discovered I was expecting our seventh child. My intention was to stay home, but the economy and finances warranted I return to the workforce a year after my son’s birth.
It was vital I find a career that would allow me to be with my child. It seemed only natural to choose child care. Especially a child care environment that is structured and learning based. Something Secondine Child Development Center offered.
I have been with SCDC since October of 2007. I am currently in the Infant (Tahkox) Room. I am working to obtain a CDA through TCC. I know having my CDA will be a tool to help me meet the expectations that go along with such a challenging career.
I gladly accept the challenge.
Christie Garrett , Toddler 1 Teacher

I am Christie Garrett and I am the Master teacher in the Toddler one room. I have worked with children since 2001; I have worked with the Delaware child development program since March of 2008. I have my CDA and hope to one day attend college to attain my Associates in Early Childhood Education. I have two children of my own, they are 15 and 11years or age and my fiancé has two boys age 2 years and 4 years. I attended and graduated from Vinita Schools in May of 1993. I have enjoyed being around children and taking care of children my whole life. I didn’t expect to go into the field of early childhood education when I graduated, but I soon found myself being around children even more. I was hired on with the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma as a Preschool teacher in their Headstart program almost 8 years ago. The program lost funding and I lost my teaching position, I saw that Secondine CDC was hiring and I thought I would give it my best shot. I was hired in the early part of March as an assistant teacher and in July I had the opportunity to become the master teacher. I enjoy it and hope to have many more years with the program. .

My name is Kathy Bates; I have been employed at Secondine Child Development Center (SCDC) in Chelsea, Oklahoma since October 2006. I have been working in child care since 1999 and I am excited to be on staff here at SCDC as the Toddler 2 (Maxkw) teacher. I graduated from Bixby High School, received my Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential from Tulsa Technology Center, and I also have hours from Tulsa Community College in Early Childhood Education. I am very excited to be starting my Associates Degree in January 2007. Children are my passion and I really enjoy doing creative art with the kids. I believe the process is the real goal and not the finished product. In my spare time I enjoy shopping, spending time with family, trying new recipes, watching the Food Network, playing with my cats, and decorating my home. I married the love of my life, Eric and we have two cats, Sarah and Scarlett. I also have a great family, my parents have been married for over thirty years and I have two older brothers and their wives along with four nieces, and a nephew.
FrankieCampbell, Preschool Teacher

My name is Frankie Campbell and I am the Master Teacher of the Pre-School class (Chemames) at Secondine Child Development Center in Chelsea Oklahoma.
I have been working in Early Childhood Education since 1988. For six of those years I served as director of two centers but my love has always been in the classroom teaching.
I have over three hundred fifty hours of training in Early Childhood Education specializing in ages three through five years of age. I received my Child Development Associate Credential in 2000.
I know teaching 1-2-3’s and A-B-C’s is important. However I feel if I can teach a child the love of learning, problem solving skills and empathy: then I have helped to prepare them to succeed in life and become a responsible, positive and contributing member of our world’s society.
Trixie Stinnett, Child Care Center Cook
Email Trixie Stinnett
I am the cook at Secondine Child Development Center (SCDC) in Chelsea Oklahoma. I have been with this program since October 2002. I received my education in the Chelsea Public School system. In 1982 I bought a small donut shop business in Chelsea, which I operated for 16 years. After I sold that business I opened a small Drive-In restaurant also in Chelsea. After operating for 3 years, in 2002 I decided to sell and stop working for myself. This is when I was given the opportunity to come on board with SCDC. I decided to combine two things I love; cooking and being around young children. I enjoy cooking and knowing that the children are getting nutritious meals and snacks while they are in our care. I also love watching children learn, grow and develop. Nothing warms my heart more than to hear the children saying, “I love you, Ms Trixie and vegetables!” I take great satisfaction in knowing that I have played a huge role in their development.
