Janet Lewis , Child Nutrition Specialist

My name is Janet Lewis and I am the Child Nutrition Specialist for Delaware Child Development/Washington County Child Care Foundation at the Ponca City satellite office.  I am returning to this position after doing Resource and Referral for two years.
I have a CDA in Infant/Toddler—a Certificate of Mastery and Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education from Redlands Community College in El Reno, OK.  I am currently a semester away from my Bachelors in Early Childhood Administration.
I have been involved in the care of children in several different capacities since 1990.  I have worked in several centers in the Nowata, Washington, and Kay County area; I have been a foster parent for Craig, Nowata, and Washington County DHS; and was actively involved with the Nowata area C.A.R.D. Head start program and Cherokee Nation Head start program as a parent and community representative.
I am married with two beautiful daughters.  If you have a day to listen, I would love to tell you (pictures included) about my grandchildren.  I have one granddaughter and one grandson and they are my world!
I feel proper nutrition is very important in a child’s life.  The best way to teach a child is by example.  What better way to teach by example then to offer family style dining in our homes.  My challenge is to see healthy meals served and more active lifestyles for our children.
“To the world you might be just one person, but to one child, you might just be the world.”

Hi, my name is Toni Davis. I would like to tell you a little of my background.  I started cooking in the Bartlesville School District in 1994.  I worked at several of the Bartlesville Schools, during my 5 years of employment there, and I loved every minute of it.  In late 1999, I went to work for a very nice nursing home here in Bartlesville.  I received an Associate’s Degree in Dietary Management and a second in Sanitation in 2001.  In 2004, I was privileged to join in employment with the Delaware Tribe as a kitchen manager in their Caney Early Care and Education Center.   So, you can see, I bring with me lots of experience in the CACFP Food Program and also practical experience in the kitchen.  When the Delaware Tribe closed down the Childcare Center in Caney, I was devastated, but I had learned a long time ago that change can be good, and also it can really replenish your love of the kind of job you are doing.  If you are unable to change, then you will have a hard time moving into the future and I really feel that I am working with the future.  Our future is in the children of today.  I am now proudly the Coordinator of the Delaware Child Nutrition Program.  We reimburse Home Childcare Providers for some of the cost of feeding the children that they care for in their homes.  We make sure that Providers serve nutritious meals and keep up the necessary paperwork to document the children’s attendance, meals served and menus daily.  And in turn we mail them a check to help with the expenses.  We nurture 93 Home childcare groups as of today, and might I say they are an awesome group, nearly 900 Oklahoma children are being fed more nutritious meals because of the funds from CACFP.  I hope to be able to share a great deal of my experiences with each of you and that we can share a love of caring for children together.
