Every child deserves the opportunity to be the best they can be. Healthy Families and Babies employs certified Parent Educators that will offer information on how to stimulate and enhance the developmental growth of the children in the family. This information includes parenting curriculums, videos, parent/child activities, monthly newsletters, and invitations to our monthly parent support groups and quarterly events.

 

Application

Are you a new parent or expecting a baby? Apply now to receive information and resource matterials on parenting skills, community resources, healthy prenatal care, fetal development, labor and delivery, breast feeding, infant and child development, positive parent-child interaction, family goals setting, problem solving, child development screenings, and child health and nutrition.

 

Activities

Playschool: Parents and children will be engaged in active play and learning experiences including art, music, language, gross motor, and fine motor activities. This is a wonderful time for Mommies and Daddies to interact with their children (Birth to 5 years old) in developmentally designed activities. Playschool is held from 9:30 to 11:00 am on the 2nd and 4th Monday each month at the Washington County Health Department, 3838 State Street in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. dossI am the supervisor for Healthy Families and Babies in Bartlesville, OK.  I received my Bachelor’s of Science degree in education from Oklahoma Baptist University and have taught pre-school through adults’ levels. Drawing on my international travel and missions experiences, I developed an appreciation and awareness for the issues affecting children.
I have a lifelong commitment to equip whole families with the necessary tools to reach their full potential.  I enjoy getting to know people of differing back grounds and capturing cultural diversity through photography.

 

 

 

Mary Shell, Family Support Specialist

ShellMary Shell, a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, comes to Healthy Families and Babies with experience from the Health Department as a Children’s First Nurse in Tulsa.  Mary has been a mentor for other nurses in the use of Motivational Interviewing, a therapeutic technique that helps families establish and attain short and long term goals.  Mary is trained to be a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.  She also has an extensive background as a psychiatric nurse in hospital and home health settings.  Mary enjoys and is very committed to mentoring parents in developing their skills in making their home a rich environment for their children’s growth.

dossKelsey Thomas, a Family Support Worker at Healthy Families and Babies, graduated from Oklahoma Wesleyan University with a B.A. in Psychology in May 2009. She has a great love for children which has been cultivated in a variety of settings. Kelsey has worked as a teacher in a child care setting, been an active volunteer in children’s ministries, and cared for children in their home. Her dedication to children shines through as she coaches, guides, and inspires parents to become active in promoting healthy development, creating meaningful experiences, and practicing positive discipline techniques with their children. In her free time, she can be found enjoying a meal with her family, playing with her kittens or snuggling with her dog.
